Pech Cujoul* stands on the top of a wooded hill situated near Lafontade, a village that is administratively attached to Gourdon, a major town in the Lot department. It is a wooded property of more than 12 hectares (30 acres) in a calm and verdant area, situated between the Lot and the Dordogne rivers. Originally, the only habitation on the hill was a small farmhouse and its outbuildings. These have now been totally renovated and modernized to form the current habitation. Gourdon (5,000 inhabitants) has a medieval centre (medieval feast in the summer), shops of all kinds and numerous restaurants, as well as a typical country market, a cinema, post-office and a hospital. Nearby towns are Domme (20 km), Sarlat-la-canéda (25 km), Rocamadour (40 km) and Cahors (40 km). We are situated 5 km from the centre of Gourdon. Supermarkets and other retail outlets are usefully situated on the way from Gourdon to Pech Cujoul. Activities in the locality that we can recommended are: hiking, horse riding, mountain biking. There are numerous chateaus to visit, museums and prehistoric caves. Also canoeing, kayaking or boating on the rivers Dordogne and Lot as well as quad biking, golf and hot air ballooning. |
